I started my martial arts training in 1998 after I got back from
Basic training for the Army
National Guard. Like most people who
are new to the martial arts I tried several arts before
finally settling on styles that
really worked for me. I tried Aikido, Judo, Jeet Kune Do, Gracie
Jujitsu, Tai Chi, Wing Chun Kung Fu and Kali before discovering
Commando Krav Maga.
I studied Aikido, and Judo for about six months each before moving
on to Jeet Kune Do,
Gracie Jujitsu and Tai Chi, which I
studied for approximately 1 year each. I studied Wing Chun
for about 3 years under Dave Mercado
in Carbondale, IL. After he earned his Graduate degree
and left town, I started training in
Kali with a friend from class. I have studied Kali for many
years under different instructors
and I am still continuing my training.
After I came back from Iraq I knew that I needed a new art to
study. After researching a lot of options I discovered Commando
Krav Maga and Moni Aizik. After reading his website and watching
his videos on YouTube I decided I had to train with him. Over the
years I have found
that the most important part to finding a good martial art to
study is finding a good teacher and Moni Aizik is the best
instructor I have ever met.
