James Westhorpe
James was introduced to martial arts
from an early age, but seriously began learning during his teenage years, when
he began training in Muay Thai at a local club. He later moved to Leeds
where he continued his studies of
traditional martial arts by learning the Chinese system of
Wing Chun Kung Fu, which he became
very proficient at and continues to train today.
Although extremely pleased with his development in the traditional arts, he
looked towards a
reality based fighting system to
continue to develop his own ability and sought to fill the gaps
which he felt the traditional arts
was not able to fill. The increasing and persistent threats from
knife and gun crime persuaded James
to look for a system that was able to address such concerns, and felt that a
reality based system would do this. Therefore James began training in Commando
Krav Maga qualifying as an instructor under the teachings of the founder Moni
Aizik.
Despite scepticism among many within the martial arts community of the speed
which one
can learn a system effectively, James
feels that Commando Krav Maga proves such views as
incorrect. He believes that Commando
Krav Maga provides the closest to perfect answer to anyone’s needs, that is
looking for a self defence system, which they can learn quickly and effectively
to protect themselves on the street, without years of training that other
martial arts require, and as Commando Krav Maga continues to be taught to
Special Forces by Moni, it is constantly tested in the field and proven to work.
James also has experience in the security sector, which has involved a practical
and theoretical understanding through experience from the large spectrum of
security work ranging from low
level tasks such as retail security
and surveillance work to broader security issues, such as security consultancy
work, helping research developing international security and political
situations.
On the whole James continues to seek and develop ways to contribute towards his
own greater development and understanding of martial arts, which a large part
involves teaching a system
which will benefit all who may learn
from it, to help defend themselves effectively when confronted by potential
threats that we all face in today’s society.
