I
have always considered myself as being a 'classical/traditional'
martial artist. I began training under Isshinryu Master
Tatsuo Shimabuku on the island of Okinawa in 1971. I continued
training with Isshinryu Master George Shin in Puyallup, WA from
1980-1995. I enjoyed training however my passion has always
been fitness and training clients. My wife and I opened Mt. Baker
CrossFit, an elite fitness training facility, in October 2005.
Recently, a woman walked into our facility, wanting information.
She said she was training at a local Karate school. I asked her
what motivated her to take karate instruction. She rplied, "I
started training 8 months ago with the goal to be able to defend
myself and to lose weight."
I asked, "Are you able to defend yourself, and how much weight
have you lost?" She laughed and said, "No I still
can't defend myself and I haven't lost any weight!"
I suddenly realized traditional martial arts are not functional
for 'the streets' in 2007. Depending on the instruction and the
'system', it may take years to be trained to effectively defend
oneself from a street attack.
A CrossFit affiliate introduced me to Commando Krav Maga. I spent
a great
deal of time contemplating my attending an Instructor training.
It was difficult for me to understand, "How could I become
instructor trained in only 3 days?" I invested YEARS
into my karate training.
I
attended the Level 1 & 2 instructor training in April in Cincinnati,
OH. I no longer
question the integrity of the training. I believe Moni Aizik is
one of, if not THE most experienced functional fighting system
instructor in the world. In only 3 intense training days I am
prepared to introduce our members to the most devastating Israeli
Fighting System.
