Dennis is a true warrior and
inspiration for all of us! He showed us that
when we put our mind to something, we can
achieve it. As an amputee, life hasn’t always
come easy for this tough New Jersey native. We
recently spoke with Dennis regarding his
experience with the CKM Instructor Certification
course

CKM:
What inspired you
to take the CKM Instructor Course?
Dennis:
I’ve been in martial arts almost all my life.
Growing up in a very tough neighborhood, I was
always fascinated with the thought process of
self-confidence. A lot of people I knew always
felt the need to look intimidating or tough. I
didn’t get into that. However, I did start
training martial arts at the age of 6. After
being involved with a few different martial
arts, I felt that they were stagnant. One day, I
read about CKM in Black Belt and figured I
needed to try it and see if it was really as
evolved and challenging as they said. I love to
push myself to the limits. I was accepted into
the course and the rest is history.
CKM: What did
you think of the course?
Dennis: Let
me tell you, after finishing the first day, I
was questioning myself on whether I could
continue. I just received my new prosthetic leg
8 days before the course. Normally it takes 4
months to get used to all the cuts and scrapes
of working with a new prosthetic. The course was
tough and my body felt like it was going to
collapse! During my long drive home, I started
telling myself that I’m no quitter! Even through
the physical intensity, my mind and spirit felt
invigorated. I felt this burning intensity to
continue and decided to push myself through the
course, regardless of how tough it was.
CKM: What, in
your opinion, separates CKM from other systems?
Dennis: I
find that CKM is much more evolved than any
other system. Even during the course, Moni was
always looking at ways to improve the techniques
so that it could work for any type of person.
Any other system that I’ve been involved with
was always rigid in their thinking. Even if
something wasn’t practical or effective, it was
a requirement that you learn it. With Moni, his
open mindedness was really unique. I was
impressed to see that the creator of CKM was
working so hard to make his system better for
everyone. I was also attracted to the simplicity
and practicality of the techniques and tactics.
This system makes the most sense to be prepared
for the street.
 
CKM: Why
would you recommend CKM to other people?
Dennis: I
want to let you know that I only like to be
around people that want to advance and
continuously improve themselves. I don’t like to
plateau. As my mother told me when I was a
child, “Show me who you hang out with and I’ll
tell you who you are.” This system is about
evolution and continuous improvement. Even being
in martial arts all my life, I still questioned
my abilities in a confrontation. With CKM, I
found a new confidence. I truly feel that this
is a system that can be utilized effectively in
the street. With its evolved and practical
techniques, CKM makes the most sense for anyone!
I now have a lot of people, especially women,
asking when I can teach them CKM!
Dennis is now the first Certified CKM Instructor
with a prosthetic leg! He definitely earned his
certificate through his dedication and mental
toughness. |

The only relevant question one should
ask when considering doing the
instructor's CKM course is: Am I willing
to evolve? That willingness then becomes
the foundation for your transformation.
I would venture to guess that there are
very few life changing opportunities out
there that reach so deep in just 4
days.
This course is on the verge of some kind
of commando magic—not because of the CKM
content per se but rather the way in
which you are taken into the realm of
your own "limitations" and are then
guided into a new way to fend for
yourself and overcome your demons. When
you land, at the end of the 4 days, in
that place where you realize your
potential, the lesson is simple: you
have only just begun. That "new you" is
then added to the exponential
possibility of the next "new you" and
suddenly you get why you are doing this
(physical and mental thrashing aside).
You wake up and feel your life again and
the best reward of all is the

I had the privilege of reviewing levels
1&2 in St. Louis last week. Since I just
tested in December, I was excited to
take the class without the pressure of
testing. Doing so gave me a different
perspective and allowed me to realize
how intrinsically valuable, creative,
and potent this training is, regardless
if you test, review, or are just
attending for personal development. It
really does not matter why you take the
course
the benefits will be there if you are.
Technically, I was so impressed by how,
in just 5 months since I tested, Moni
has evolved several of the techniques.
His constant scrutiny of the techniques
and their merit is at the heart of why
this system is so dynamic. You can ask
him about any "what if" attack scenario
and in moments he will find the answer
or sculpt an existing technique to meet
the need. This is no stagnant art—it
adapts to the ever changing reality
required for survival.
As a 47 year old woman who is just
average on the athletic scale and in
reasonably decent shape fitness wise, I
am continuously intrigued by how easy
CKM techniques are, even against
towering, super-strong men. The
techniques are clean, efficient, easy to
remember, user-friendly,
non-intimidating, and FUN!! If I can do
this course know that any of you reading
this (female or male) who are wondering
if you would make it through—yes—you
will!! Just trust yourself, be willing
to evolve, and show up.

GETTING
TO BE ELITE – 5 Important Health Tips! |

LOOK AND FEEL BETTER?
Many
of us know that health is an integral part
of our lives, yet we seem to always
neglect ourselves. With the fast-paced,
fast-food, lack of time society that we
live in, excuses become a ritual when we
think about exercising. Here are some of
the more popular excuses that we’ve heard:

FIVE POPULAR
EXCUSES:
1. I have
no time for regular
exercise.
It seems that most
of us can find a couple of hours to
watch TV. All you need is to find 30
minutes a day to start getting into
better shape. Elite Combat Fitness
exercises incorporate a total body

Remember, Health Canada suggests a

5. Physical activity helps maintain a
healthy body weight, and is associated
with positive self-esteem, greater
self-efficacy, improved academic and
cognitive performance, and greater
perceived well-being. Physical
activity helps reduce a number of risk
factors for diseases such as coronary
heart disease by setting positive
habits early on in childhood and
adolescence.

used to hate my "before" picture,
but now I am quite proud of it... as
a reminder. In the photo I had
already lost a couple of pounds, and

Personal and public safety is an
ongoing concern for all of us. Every
time we turn on the T.V. or read a
newspaper, there is always at least
one incident regarding an assault, a
robbery, a shooting, a stabbing, a
home invasion, domestic violence…you
get the idea. Our safety and the
safety of our loved ones are always on
our mind. Here are some quick
suggestions on minimizing your risk
and exposure:
PERSONAL
SAFETY TIPS FOR ADULTS:
Home Security

-
Make sure
your home is secure. Put
deadbolts on doors and good
locks on windows.
-
Change the
locks when you move into a new
place.
-
Make sure
your entrances are lit and
install a peephole in your
door.
-
Get to know
your neighbours and keep an
eye on each other's homes.
-
Inquire
with police if there is a
Neighbourhood Watch or Block
Parent program in your
community.
In Your Community
-
When
walking, know where you are
going.
-
Stay on
well-lit streets.
-
Don't
obstruct your view with
parcels that can slow you
down.
-
Pay
attention to your instincts -
if your gut tells you not to
go one way, choose another
path. If you feel you are
being followed, quickly assess
your options. Can you run or
change direction? Are there
people nearby or houses or
businesses to run to? Do what
you can, fast. You may not be
in danger, but it's best to
play it safe.
-
Contact the
your local police if you see
suspicious activity
In Your Car
-
When you
are driving or parking your
car, use common sense to
protect yourself.
-
Lock your
doors immediately after you
get in your car.
-
Never pick
up hitch-hikers.
-
Do not stop
to pick up stranded motorists.
The best thing you can do is
call someone like the police
to assist.
-
Park in
well lit areas and keep your
vehicle locked when it is
parked.
-
If your
vehicle breaks down, raise the
hood and switch on the hazard
lights. Stay inside the car
with the windows up and the
doors locked. If somebody
offers help, assess the
situation to see if it is safe
to accept assistance. Is the
helper another motorist with a
family, or a lone driver? If
you feel unsafe, ask the
helper to call for assistance.

Be alert
getting in and out of your
car. Always have your keys
ready when you approach your
car and check that no one is
inside before you get in.
-
Do not keep
your car registration and
license in your car - they'll
tell burglars where you live.
Keep them in your purse or
wallet instead.

Remember!
Simple precautions can reduce your risk of assault, but even the most alert and cautious person can still end up a victim. If you are assaulted, call the police immediately - the sooner you report the crime, the better. Talk to someone who can help you deal with your feelings about the assault - a friend, a family member, or counselor.
You can also decide to empower yourself and be prepared for the unexpected.
